Body neutrality, not body positivity, may be the best way to fight unsustainable beauty ideals
Body neutrality is a philosophy where you need to focus on what your body can do for you, not on your appearance. fashionbeautypalace
In recent years, body positivity,
which encourages people to love their bodies no matter what they look like, has
become a cultural term.
For people who find it impossible to
love their appearance 7/24, neutrality in the body can be a useful idea. The
goal of body neutrality is to feel at peace with your body.

“Imagine, don't think about your
body. You don't hate it. You don't like it. You are just a floating head. I am
a floating head circling the world,” the actress said. by NBC Jameela Jamil. “A
good place,” he said in a Glamor interview in September 2019.
The actress, known for calling on the
Kardashians to promote diet products, described "neutrality in the
body." The concept began in 2015, when Anne Poirier, a former college
fitness teacher, hosted a body neutrality seminar in Vermont.
It's the concept of loving your body
no matter what, "body positivity" is an idea that fights emotional
movement. The founders of the fat burning movement in the '60s promoted the
term “body positivity” with the idea that all bodies are beautiful, not just
thin and Euro-centric compliant.
Body neutrality, on the other hand,
values the appearance of what your body does for you.
The difference
between body neutrality and body positivity
Body positivity, Vassenaar points
out, "can sometimes be a stretch for people because we live in an
environment that doesn't really encourage women to have a positive attitude
towards their bodies." Neutrality is more comfortable and more stable.
A person concerned about body
positivity may say, "I like my body" or "I'm happy with the way
my body looks." A physically neutral person can say, “My body can take me
on my favorite hiking trail” or “I can take my baby”.
It's a personal promise, "Even
if you want something to be different, accept your body as it is today,"
Vassenaar said. And it takes time, patience, and practice to achieve it.
You may want to
change your body and continue to practice neutrality in your body
According to Vassenaar, people
looking for changes in their body through plastic surgery or a regulated diet
and exercise program can also switch to a neutral mindset.
He says that when we are taught that
physical beauty can create happiness, it is difficult to deal with body
neutrality. But even if a person realizes that a smaller physical or nose will
not make them happy in an instant, they can find peace in the body before and
after the body is replaced.
“When people spend too much on
changing their bodies to change their experiences in the world, it becomes a
really dangerous thing,” Vassenaar said. "Because many times I realize you
can never change your body to make yourself happy."
According to him, diet and fitness
plans that require restrictions or push your body beyond its limits are not
neutral to the body. These plans require a person to maintain a high diet or
fitness plan in their body from the natural signs of hunger or physical
activity.
